Health minister announces ‘game-changer’ investment for GV Health and Shepparton community
The Allan Labor Government has announced a funding boost for Goulburn Valley Health in Shepparton.
Victoria’s Minister for Health Infrastructure Mary-Anne Thomas unveiled plans for a new three-storey apartment block during a visit to GV Health on Thursday, March 28.
The development is being funded through a $10.2 million grant awarded to GV Health as part of the government’s broader Regional Health Infrastructure Fund, designed to address challenges the healthcare workforce faces.
The new accommodation is expected to help attract healthcare workers to the region and support staff already in place.
GV Health chief executive Matt Sharp described the accommodation as a “game-changer for our community”.
“GV Health is pursuing a comprehensive plan for sustainable accommodation to support its growing workforce and attract exceptional healthcare professionals to the region,” he said.
“We are looking at all options to attract great candidates to fill around 550 staff vacancies at GV Health, and delivering more accommodation is a crucial piece of the puzzle.
“Right now, we need to rent accommodation for up to 150 workers every night across the local rental market and serviced apartments.
“That’s not financially sustainable, and this project will save an estimated $1 million annually, just in serviced accommodation costs.”
The planned accommodation at GV Health’s main campus in Shepparton includes 18 new apartments with direct access to GV Health’s Graham St campus.
It includes 15 single rooms and three double units.
The development will incorporate solar PV panels, car charging points for electric vehicles, high-performance thermal insulation and glazing, and the use of recycled materials.
The project is scheduled for completion in April 2026.
