A minor heat wave wasn’t enough to stop locals and visitors alike from descending on Swanpool for its annual Motor Festival.

There were cars, bikes, trucks and boats filling the Albert Heaney Oval while food and drink vendors joined stall holders at the swap meet, circling a good quarter of the boundary line.

Speaking in the morning as the oval began to fill up, organiser Ross Coles said he was expecting up to 300 vehicles to take part in the Show and Shine.

“But it’s going to be a hot day, so the weather might put a few off,” Mr Coles said.

“We’ve got plenty of shade, and the aircon is on inside, so the heat shouldn’t affect us too much.

“The live band, Rattler, are busy setting up, and they’ll be playing all day.

“Plus, we have the market stalls, which are already pretty popular.

“And all the food and drink vans are already set up.”

Those included some great options for adults and kids alike.

The Benalla Lions Club was also there with its barbecue.

The Swanpool Motor Festival is not only a big day on the calendar for attendees, classic car owners also look forward to it.

Dorothy Sutton attended with her hot-rod, a classic 1932 Ford Coupe.

She wore a bright pink dress to match its paintwork.

“We restored this one. It took us about eight months,” she said.

“We take it around to all the show and shines, and today it’s Swanpool.

“I’ve been here before. It’s one of my favourites.”

Ms Sutton said she always gets a reaction when driving the car.

“People say, ‘Whoa, it’s gorgeous’,” she said.

“If I drive past, they’re waving and taking photos. People just love it.”
