Emergency services are currently investigating whether a houseboat that went up in flames this morning near Echuca had any people on board.

New South Wales Rural Fire Service received the call out at 2.49am and the first of the two RFS trucks arrived on the scene, close to the Victoria Park Boat Ramp, at 3.07am.

It took an hour for fire services to control the blaze.

Inspector Doug Adamson of the NSW RFS said the houseboat, which was an older boat is “completely burnt all the way to the waterline.”

He said emergency services are currently investigating how the fire started and whether anyone was on board at the time.

“People from a neighbouring houseboat said they didn’t think they had seen anyone on board the houseboat for about five days,” Insp Adamson said.

“Detectives are currently at the scene to investigate.”

RFS was supported by the Echuca Village CFA brigade, Echuca CFA brigade Moama Fire and Rescue, Ambulance Victoria and Echuca police.
