A crowd of near 500 people massed at the Mooroopna War Memorial for the Anzac Day service, with over 200 of them having marched along McLennan St beforehand.

Among them was Dennis Corboy, an ex-serviceman who served in Vietnam for two years as a truck driver, transporting weapons and ammunition across the country.

He marched in the parade, proudly showing his medals, but it hasn’t always been that way for him.

“When you came back home it was difficult, there was a lot of people against the war,” Mr Corboy said.

“We were a bit forgotten, it took a bit of time to get over that because it was a bit hard to take at times ... I didn’t march until 20 years after I came home.”

Mr Corboy was thankful to see such a huge turnout at the service and march on Tuesday.

“It was really good seeing so many people here today,” he said.

“My hope is that our grandchildren will never have to see a war and they’ll never have to go away and fight for their country.”
