User’s of Numurkah Library and Tatura Library rejoice.

Goulburn Valley Libraries have rolled out a new initiative to get more people engaged with their local library.

The new Open Library project, which has been rolled out at the Nurmurkah and Tatura libraries, allows patrons to access the libraries from 8am and 8pm, seven days a week, including public holidays.

The initiative is based on a similar model found in Europe which offers 24/7 access, and is in response to customer feedback related to operating hours.

The Open Library services are available to library members who are 18 years or older with services available including, borrowing, Wi-Fi, public PCs, study spaces, print, scan and copy services.

Library members wanting to use the new services are required to attend a safety induction session where they learn how to access the services, understand the safety measures in place and receive guidelines on acceptable use.

Goulburn Valley Libraries chief executive Felicity Macchion said the concept was a wonderful addition for the Goulburn Valley community.

“Residents from Numurkah, Tatura and beyond can participate in this excellent program. It will extend our library's operating hours and provide a welcoming environment for many community members.”

Goulburn Valley Libraries board chair Suzanna Sheed echoed this sentiment.

“The board is excited to introduce these extended library hours to our communities, emphasising the importance of providing additional hours for those who cannot access our libraries during our staffed hours,” Ms Sheed said.

The Open Library program is expected to be extended to more branches in the future.
