Expressions of interest are now open for parents and carers to join a new support group in Shepparton tailored to children with disabilities or developmental concerns.

Spearheaded by the not-for-profit community organisation Intereach, the group aims to provide a platform for families to connect and receive support.

“It’s a safe space where they can share a story and a laugh over a cuppa, and organise games, activities, and outings that promote mindfulness and joy,” Intereach early childhood coordinator Codie Edmunds said.

“(Families will) create meaningful connections, share information and knowledge, and listen to guest speakers.”

Intereach can help establish the group, and local parents and carers are empowered to design and continue facilitating it.

Ms Edmunds said the benefits of these groups are immense, including providing parents and carers with insights and understanding among like-minded families.

“There are unique challenges that come with caring for children with disability or developmental delays,” she said.

“Our goal is to help families in our community feel supported and less isolated by creating a space where they can connect and share their journey.”

Those interested in joining the Care and Share Support Group in Shepparton can fill out an online expression of interest form at forms.office.com/r/nGevxnT808 or email codie.edmunds@intereach.com.au
