Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal single vehicle crash in Lockington on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Lockington Rd at about 3.50pm following reports a solo rider had fallen off their motorcycle.

Police were quickly on the scene and located the rider with critical injuries, but sadly, the 43-year-old Echuca man died at the scene.

Acting Sergeant Gary Atkins of Campaspe Highway Patrol attended the scene and said the road was closed for four hours after the tragedy.

“The rider was travelling north on Lockington Rd, south of Prairie-Rochester Rd, just prior to the water channel (Waranga Western Channel),” he said.

“We’re still in the early stages of the investigation and it’s a matter for the coroner.

“There have been no other (recent) incidents near that intersection.”

The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined and investigations remain ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, has dashcam footage or other information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppersvic.com.au

So far this year, 48 people have lost their lives on Victorian roads, compared to 61 lives lost at the same time last year.
