Do you know an older member of the Benalla community who you’d like to see recognised for their contribution to the Rose City?

If so, now is the time to get your nominations in for the Victorian Senior of the Year Awards.

Nominations are open until Friday, July 28.

The awards allow communities across the state to acknowledge the efforts of senior Victorians who give their time, skills and energy to improve their community.

For more than 25 years, the awards have highlighted the work seniors do every day in volunteering in neighbourhood houses, places of worship and on community projects.

Victorians are this year being encouraged to nominate residents aged 60 and above and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Victorians aged 50 years and above.

Categories open for the nominations include:

  • The Premier’s Award for Victorian Senior of the Year for outstanding achievement;
  • The Promotion of Multiculturalism Award for promoting the benefits of cultural diversity;
  • The Healthy and Active Living Award for helping to create active and healthy communities;
  • The Veteran Community Award for exceptional contribution to the veteran community — open to all who work with the veteran community, not only veterans themselves;
  • The Ageing Well Award for combatting ageism and promoting ageing well initiatives; and
  • The Council on the Ageing Victoria Senior Achiever awards for significant contribution to local communities and Victoria.

Every nominee will receive a certificate acknowledging their contribution, and recipients of the 2023 awards will be honoured at a ceremony during the Victorian Seniors Festival in October.
