Jeff’s focus on collaborative development

Jeff Shand.

Getting back to the basics of local government.

That is what Jeff Shand hopes to contribute to as a councillor on Edward River Council.

One of 16 candidates standing for Edward River, Mr Shand is one of few with previous council experience.

He was a councillor on the former Deniliquin Council, and was deputy mayor before the merger with Conargo to form Edward River took place in 2016.

“If elected, with a collaborative approach through my fellow councillors, I would focus on the council’s core business of serving our town community and our five rural communities,” he said.

Mr Shand said his key areas of interest are in development and the principles of transparent governance in the Edward River region.

“In effect, along with creating a collaborative approach, my strong interests align with creating development opportunities, fair rates and accountability.”

Mr Shand believes his experience in helping bring the former Deniliquin and Conargo councils together would serve well in this next term of council.

On the development front, he would like to examine the potential of a new medical facility and the future of Edward River Retirement Village.

“I have experience in local government, previously serving a term.

“My previous experience in council leads me to believe I can serve well.

“I would look at the possibility of another medical centre and an exit strategy regarding the retirement village.

“Among other things, along with fellow councillors, I would listen to the wishes, serve and do what is in the best interests of the community.

“I want to create an environment to bring people to our town, our wonderful town, through jobs and through development.”
