The Foundry Art Space is hosting an Artist Talk with Luann Bennett on Saturday, September 7.

Ms Bennett, a figurative and abstract artist, currently has an exhibition showing at the Foundry titled Book of Days: Time and Figure.

The exhibition features works that have been created through Zoom, over the span of two years with movement specialist and model from America, Alex.

The artworks depict the continuous movement and emotions of the model and artist during the two-hour Zoom sessions.

Ms Bennet said during the sessions, she worked as Alex moved and left the original pieces mostly untouched.

“[Alex] moved continuously through our sessions, there was no sitting down and with this [artwork] I simply followed Alex throughout our normal sessions,” she said.

“I elected to leave the work fairly raw and resisted that urge to go back later on and fix it up.”

Six of the pieces titled Book of Days, were originally done on a seven-metre-long paper. However, in order to display it in the Foundry, the paper was split into separate pieces.

They were created using charcoal and pastel and featured words, lines and music lyrics inspired by their environment during its creation.

The pieces were originally created in 2022 when the floods were flowing in.

Ms Bennett said her experience with the floods is also shown in the works.

“The thing about this particular piece is that the weekend Alex and I did this session, we were sandbagging here which is why it looks sort of murky,” she said.

“That’s the genesis of it, it all happened that weekend, I would finish our sessions and go do sandbagging because we were waiting for the water to come in.

“I would really like people to see that yes, it is a naked form but it is so much more than that.”

Ms Bennett will share more about her works during her Artist Talk on Saturday.

The event is free to all and will run from 2pm to 3pm.
