Joint venture in place for flood assistance

Flood recovery: GV Cares is stepping up flood assistance across Shepparton.

As the flooding crisis turns to recovery in Shepparton, a number of agencies will provide assistance.

VICSES is currently delivering emergency food and medical support to community members who cannot leave their homes due to the flooding.

GV Cares will provide food and essentials packed through a local initiative and has partnered with Shepparton FoodShare, Committee for Greater Shepparton, the Greater Shepparton Foundation, and Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project.

GV Cares also will support Red Cross and Greater Shepparton City Council.

GV Cares’ current and immediate focus is ensuring isolated members of the community are provided with essentials.

Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project executive officer Amy Robinson said the initiative was an excellent way for the community to come together to support people.

“GV Cares is a great example of the community coming together to support our local community in times of crisis,” Ms Robinson said.

“Lighthouse Project has relentlessly supported our community at this devastating time. As always, we will do whatever is required to address the current need prevalent within the community.

“GV Cares, with its extensive network of volunteers, is an activated asset that will be leveraged over the coming weeks and months in supporting the recovery.”

Shepparton FoodShare chair Jeremy Rensford said he was proud of agencies coming together to support the community and his team during the crisis.

“Shepparton FoodShare has been providing vital services for over a decade,” Mr Rensford said.

“Much-needed food is distributed to emergency relief agencies, schools, churches and community meals programs year-round for the people they support.
