A junior sports club has been left devastated after a break-in days out from a major competition.

Thieves broke into four shipping containers at the Goulburn Valley Junior Motorcycle Club on Tuesday, July 19 or Wednesday, July 20.

The containers were used for storage, but one also operated as the canteen at the track in Echuca Rd, Mooroopna.

The break-in occurred only days before the club hosts round four of the Northern Region Series on the weekend, where more than 270 riders are expected to take to the tracks.

Club president Matt Jobling said lots of things were damaged at the club, including a tractor which was rendered unusable after the ignition barrel was taken out and the rear window smashed.

The club had to get emergency repairs done to the tractor so it could be used to prepare the track for competition.

Equipment including a generator and powered garden tools were taken in the burglary, while food and drinks were taken from the canteen.

“The volunteers have been getting the track organised for weeks,” Mr Jobling said.

“The volunteers have been working tirelessly.

“It’s pretty disappointing.

“We’ve been hit quite hard by COVID.

“Over the past two years we have had to cancel events.

“Then for this to happen… is devastating.”
