Junior public speaking success

MC Lion John Weinert congratulates grade 3 and 4 winner Xavier Davidson from Mulwala Primary School and Runner Up Lyla Guthrie from Yarrawonga College P-12.

Yarrawonga Lions ran its Junior Public Speaking competition at their clubrooms on Sunday, July 23 with an audience of approximately 50 who came to support the six entrants from the three local schools.

This program gives students in primary schools the chance to develop their ability to speak in public.

This competition is run for primary students in grades 3,4,5, and 6. If you are interested in participating next year please speak to your teachers in your school, all schools in Yarrawonga and Mulwala participate.

The Lions Club thank the teachers for taking the time to prepare students for this event, as we all know how busy teachers are.

Mr Weinhert provides congratulations to Lyla Dunlop from Mulwala Primary School and Cydee Adams from Yarrawonga College P-12. Well done also to Sally Howell and Dakota True.

A huge thank you to the three judges Margaret Best, Debbie Cooper and Max Grinter who had the unenviable task of deciding the winners.

The topic for this year were: Years 3 and 4 – “oh no you’ve turned into a giant” and

Years 5 and 6 “strange world records set in history”.

Results:

Year 3 and 4 - Xavier Davidson (Mulwala Primary) and Runner Up Lyla Guthrie (Yarrawonga College P-12).

Years 5 and 6 – Lyla Dunlop (Mulwala Primary) and Cydee Adams (Yarrawonga College P-12) – congratulations also to Sally Howell and Dakota True - such a close competition.

Thanks John for liaising with the schools and organising the day.

Judges: Max Grinter, Debbie Cooper and Lion Margaret Best.

As always afternoon tea was a popular event – on a sunny day a sausage and bread and home-made slice is always welcomed.

The regional finals will be run on Sunday, August 6 in Tocumwal, and the Lions Club wish all competitors good luck – enjoy the day.
