Bold contemporary fashions by Goulburn Valley indigenous designers will be on show early next month as Kaiela Arts brings its successful Darwin premiere to Shepparton for the first time.
Fresh Water Fashion celebrates Kaiela Arts’ 2018 collection of wearable art garments and accessories which premiered at the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair in August last year, and went on to be shown in Indonesia at Jakarta Fashion Week.
The collection was also featured in Vogue online fashion trends.
The collection features wearable art garments and accessories with Kaiela Arts designs screen printed onto linen fabrics teamed with woven hats and body adornments created from local grasses.
Kaiela Arts manager Angie Russi said local artists Tiarne Hall, Victoria Webbe, Eva Ponting and Eric Brown designed the fabrics for the gallery’s Design Roots project.
They then teamed with local designers Wendy Crowe and Karin Berg before the garments were showcased on the runway worn by Aboriginal models.
The Fresh Water Fashion show is at The Connection on Sunday, March 3, from 12.30pm.
Tables for six are available to Yanha and Kaiela Arts members for $84.
Tables for non-members are $96.
