The Katamatite Lions has opened an op shop over the weekend to raise money for silo art murals.
The group has already raised $32,000 of the $40,000 fundraising goal from the combined revenue from its fundraising market and new op shop, along with a grant.
Katamatite Lions Silo Art Op Shop manager Cheryl Hill said there had always been a need for an op shop in town, and it had received an overwhelmingly positive reception.
“The town has been really supportive and out-of-towners as they go past stop and have a look,” she said.
Years ago the town wanted to attract people back into town and kick-start some tourism by joining the silo art trail.
The silos haven’t even been painted yet, but the community op shop and market are already proving to be tourist attractions.
“We’re calling it a community op shop because all of the revenue is going back into the community,” Ms Hill said.
All of the revenue from the new op shop will go to the painting of the silos, and their subsequent maintenance.
“We need continual funds because once it’s painted we need to maintain it and keep it looking pretty,” Ms Hill said.
