Katelyn wins big for her school

Katelyn Eddy has won $10,000 for a new landscaping project for Mathoura Public School.

Mathoura Public school’s grounds are to take on an even better appearance, thanks to one of its students.

Eleven year-old Katelyn Eddy’s initiative in entering a competition conducted by Australian Grain Technologies has seen her secure $10,000 to beautify the school entrance.

Her efforts involved recording a video showing her vision for three flag poles surrounded by a lovely garden.

The project will not only improve the school’s appearance, but provide a lasting memory of its 2024 Captain when she moves on to begin her secondary education next year.

Congratulations to Katelyn - an unbelievable effort for a person of her age

Exciting news for local fishing enthusiasts is the possible resurrection of the Mathoura Fishing Club, and with it, hopefully the return of the club’s highly successful fishing competition.

The two-day event, based at Picnic Point, attracted hundreds of enthusiasts and offered excellent prizes.

The move to get the club back on its feet has been initiated by the Mathoura Events Committee and you can learn more about it by emailing the group on mathouraevents@gmail.com.

The recent election has been a bit like taking a long drive with the kids - ‘are we there yet? are we there yet?’.

But no, the polls in the Greater Murray Ward have not yet been formerly declared, with counting not expected to conclude until early October.

The current hold up is that the deadline for postal votes is not until today.

Currently the top three polling candidates are Kylie Berryman, Geoff Wise and Joy Allan.

And the way things have been going, they will probably feel over it before they even get their feet in the door.

If you are a gardener, then there is a real treat in store for you next month with Mathoura’s Plant Buy, Swap and Sell event.

Initiated by Lee Clear, it will be an opportunity for gardening enthusiasts to show off some of their favourite plants and see what others have.

Well, the idea has grown like Topsy, and Lee has been joined by a friend, Barb.

Between them it appears the proposal has no bounds.

To be held in the grounds of Mathoura Public School on October 12, the event will now include food and other stalls.

Add to all this a Monster Raffle with more than $8000 in prizes.

Entry is by gold coin donation, which goes to the school.

While initially planned as a gardeners’ delight, it now appears there will be something for everyone – don’t miss it!
