Kicking goals: GO Soccer Mums bringing women to the pitch

GO Soccer Mums: Lucy Marino, Michelle Frenkel, Heath Wharton, Kim Bristow and Bianca Gasparroni.

If the gym feels too daunting or cross-fit too much, Valley Sport has come up with a solution.

The GO Soccer Mums program has kicked off as a way for women, not just mums, in the region to move their bodies without the stress.

Michelle Frenkel stood on the sidelines of her daughter’s soccer games week after week.

Each match she thought to herself how great it would be to have an adult adaptation, but without the pressure.

“I always wanted to play but there was never really the chance,” she said.

“So this has been just fantastic, it’s an opportunity to have fun and to get a bit fit.

“I hope more women have a go.”

The introductory soccer program is focused on bringing women from all walks of life together to learn some basic football skills, have a kick, but mostly to have fun.

Running for six weeks, the Football Victoria initiative has two sessions per week, with the initial week having brought a “great turnout”.

The free sessions are on Wednesdays at Vibert Reserve, Shepparton from 5.30pm to 6.30pm and on Fridays from 9.30am to 10.30am at McEwen Reserve, Shepparton.

No soccer gear is needed. Participants can register via https://www.gofootball.com.au/play/pick-your-location/Valley-Sport
