Just in time for the final week of the school holidays, Shepparton’s adventure playground KidsTown has been restored following flood damage and is reopening on Saturday, January 21.
The facility has been closed for about four months while repair works were under way.
KidsTown’s café and catering services, area bookings, indoor facilities, the sprout edible garden and disc golf course will all be available from Saturday.
However, due to extensive damage the miniature train line will remain out of action for the foreseeable future.
Greater Shepparton City Council acting community director David Booth said getting KidsTown ready for use again was a team effort, with community groups pitching in to help.
KidsTown’s grounds and areas of attraction have been refreshed with newly laid soft fall material and the gravel pathways have been levelled, sink holes filled and new garden mulch laid.
“We would like to thank the hard work provided by many council departments, as well as Kiwanis Shepparton Sunrisers, Corrections Victoria, Cleaves Earthmoving and Garden Supplies, Blow it Mulch and TakeOva Security,” Mr Booth said.
“These groups have all helped get KidsTown ready to open its gates again and council is very pleased to be reopening this much-loved community asset.”
Council is advising visitors to be mindful of mosquitoes when visiting the playground and to plan ahead by using insect repellent, wearing loose-fitting long clothing and heading home before dusk.
