Councillor Justin King, who is seeking re-election in this year’s local government council elections, has announced the many issues he is keen to focus on if re-elected.

Cr King announced in February that he would be seeking re-election.

“Since announcing my candidacy in February, I have actively engaged with the community to understand their priorities for the next four years,” he said.

“Through numerous conversations with residents in Benalla and our surrounding rural townships, I am confident that my campaign platform reflects the needs and aspirations they have shared with me.”

Cr King has highlighted a focus on the redevelopment of key community projects, including the Benalla Indoor Recreation Centre, the Benalla Art Gallery and the Fawckner Dve precinct projects.

The Churchill Reserve Master Plan also plays a significant role in his vision, with an emphasis on seeking out new opportunities to further benefit the community.

Infrastructure remains a priority, with a commitment to seeking continued investment in the town’s footpaths, roads and drainage systems.

Cr King plans to maintain support for local businesses and is keen to look at ways to attract much-needed franchises to Benalla.

Cr King will also focus on future council budgets with an eye to exploring strategies to ease cost-of-living pressures for households.

Cr King’s platform also places a strong emphasis on enhancing the town’s cultural and social landscape. He aims to grow local events and entertainment options, ensuring there is always something for residents to enjoy.

In addition, he is a firm supporter of local mental health initiatives, reflecting his commitment to the wellbeing of the community.

Cr King also prioritises ongoing community consultation on council matters, ensuring that residents have a voice in the decision-making process. His platform includes continued support for sporting clubs, community groups and the volunteers who are the backbone of Benalla.

He also pledges to continue lobbying state and federal governments to secure Benalla’s fair share of grant funding to support rural communities and local climate change initiatives.
