Kings Park and Goulburn Park reopened

Road to recovery: The scene at Seymour's Kings Park after floodwater ripped through the precinct in October.

Seymour’s Goulburn Park re-opened on Saturday, February 25, hot on the heels of Kings Park, which opened on Friday, February 18.

Both parks have been closed for several months to allow for debris to be cleared and damage repaired following the October 2022 flood.

However, the front oval of Kings Park remains off limits to allow the new grass to take.

Head of the Kings Park Committee of Management Ken Hall that the the front oval should be open in April, in time for footy season, with training being held on the back oval in the mean time.

“Everything is pretty well back to normal except the buildings can’t be used… there is no reason reason why people can’t enjoy themselves,” Mr Hall said.

The BBQ and toilet facilities are also fully operational.

The Seymour Annual Show ’n’ Shine, the Sheep Dog Trials and the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo will all still be going ahead, using the back oval.

A working bee was held last weekend at Kings Park on Sunday, February 26.

Mitchell Shire Mayor Fiona Stevens said council appreciated everyone’s patience.

“We are eager to welcome back locals and visitors to the park. However, I urge that they use the park responsibly and to follow any signs that may still be in place,” Cr Stevens said.

Some facilities within Goulburn Park remain closed, including the playground, barbecue areas and standpipe, which are closed for repairs until further notice.
