A man was arrested in a Kyabram tobacco store on Tuesday, October 22 in what police said was in relation to the state-wide tobacco syndicate bust.

Leading Senior Constable Scott Jones said Kyabram police raided Kyabram Gifts & Accessories on Tuesday morning and arrested a 20-year-old Moama man.

He said police seized a large amount of vapes, illicit loose-leaf tobacco and illegal cigarettes.

Leading Sen Constable Jones said the warrant on the Kyabram Gifts and Accessories store was in relation to the state-wide illicit tobacco investigation, with 18 crime units and task forces executing warrants at tobacco stores, warehouses and residential addresses across Victoria on Tuesday, October 22.

Police said the investigation related to a group that was trading under the guise of operating gift and confectionery stores, but only selling illicit tobacco and related products.

The Moama man was charged and bailed with Commonwealth offences and is expected to appear in court in December.

Police are appealing for anyone, especially store owners and staff, who have any information regarding illicit tobacco trade to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at crimestoppersvic.com.au
