On top of completing her final year of school and taking the court in the Victorian Netball League, Kyabram’s Jazmin Clark has been growing her hair ready to be donated to Variety’s Hair with Heart.
On April 2, her blonde locks will be chopped off by a local hairdresser and made into a wig for someone who has lost their hair due to a long-term medical condition.
It’s a cause close to Jazmin’s heart – she was inspired to donate her hair in support of family members battling cancer.
“She’s been aiming to grow her hair, so it’s taken a long time to get to this length,” Jazmin’s mum, Jenn, said.
“We’re pretty proud of her.”
As well as donating her hair, the Kyabram P-12 Year 12 student is raising money to support children living with disability, chronic illness or disadvantage.
Her initial goal of $2000 was quickly met so she’s now striving for $5000 – and is well on her way.
Jazmin particularly wished to thank Angelo and Kathy Sfetcopoulos from SE National for a generous $2000 donation.
She has also received support from her club, Mooroopna Football Netball Club, and the Goulburn Valley League, both sharing her fundraising efforts on social media.
To qualify for donation Jazmin’s hair must measure at least 36cm when plaited and her short chop will mean trying out some new styles to keep her hair out of the way on the netball court.
Jazmin is contracted with the Geelong Netball Club in the Victorian Netball League, which sees her travelling to Geelong or Melbourne multiple times a week, with the season getting under way this week.
