Kyabram Men’s Longest Lunch will write a new chapter on Friday with the latest instalment of the annual men’s health awareness event.
Kyabram is famous for producing professional athletes, and so the key speakers for the seventh Longest Lunch are fittingly a pair of Kyabram sporting legends.
Former Melbourne star Noel ‘Kelly’ O’Donnell will make an appearance, joined by another former AFL player, Garry Lyon, who also grew up in Kyabram.
These men will share their insights into men’s health, with sports journalist Roger Oldridge taking the role of master of ceremonies at the Kyabram Club event.
“The whole idea of the day is for a group of guys to get together, sit down, have lunch, have a chat and a bit of fellowship,” Kyabram Men’s Longest Lunch committee chairman Nick Curnow said.
Auctions and raffles will be held on the day, raising funds for Kyabram District Health Service.
“During the last six lunches we’ve raised and donated $73,000 to the hospital. We donate about $12,000 to the hospital every year,” Mr Curnow said.
Most of the guest speakers appear at the event out of the kindness of their hearts, or charge only a small amount for appearing.
Mr Lyon has already donated his speaking “fee” to the KDHS, in the fashion of a true Kyabramite, saying “whatever you were going to pay me, give it straight back to the hospital”.
The money raised from past events has allowed KDHS to hire staff to provide more and better service to the community.
The event will take place at the Kyabram Club at noon on Friday, February 25. Bookings are available through Walker Real Estate.
