Applications for the annual Furphy Literary Awards will close on Wednesday, May 31.

Greater Shepparton City Council, in partnership with the Furphy Foundation, La Trobe University and GV Libraries, wants to remind young people to submit their entry into one of the four categories, including Junior Short Story, Junior Poetry, both for writers 12 and under, and Youth Short Story and Youth Poetry, for writers aged 13 to 17.

Mayor Shane Sali said he wanted to encourage young writers across the Goulburn Valley to submit a story.

“These awards are another way we can share the stories from young people in our community and help nurture upcoming writers,” he said.

“There are some incredible stories out there and if you haven’t already, I encourage you to submit your story to the Furphy Literary Awards.”

Each category will have a first place prize of $300, second place price of $100 and a third place prize of $50, with entries closing on May 31 at 11:59pm.
