Greater Shepparton City Council has reminded residents to register their animals by Easter Monday.

Identification tags are small and conveniently hang on collars, with no discomfort to the dog or cat.

Residents with already registered pets would have received a renewal notice in the mail.

Registrations for cats and dogs over three months of age is a legal requirement and is free for pets under six months of age.

Council director sustainable development Geraldine Christou said registrations not only helped reunite you and your pet if they got lost, they also supported important services to the community.

“Registration is easy and affordable, costing as little as $40 per year for a desexed pet, with additional discounts for pensioners,” she said.

“Many pet owners don’t know that their registration fees go towards the animal shelter, animal rangers and prosecution of dangerous dogs and animal cruelty offences.”

If you have an unregistered pet, you can register them on the council website by the deadline.
