From Afro dance to tasty foods and a fashion parade, A Taste of African Cultures on Saturday will showcase the diverse cultures of the continent.
St Paul's African House plans to have its biggest event for the “most loved community event of the year”, according to partnerships and programs manager Kate Radevski.
“The African community really wanted to help educate the wider community that Africa is not a country, it's a continent,” she said.
“There's over 54 countries with lots of different cultures, including different foods, different dress style, dance, languages — the whole thing.”
Ms Radevski said it was a chance to highlight the talents of the African community.
“We've got opportunities for people to display their musical talents, drumming, marimba, dancing workshops,” she said.
Nadia Niyubushobozi is a Year 12 student from Burundi, who moved from Kenya to Shepparton just last year, and will be volunteering on the day.
She said the event helped her connect to her culture and other members of the African community.
“It makes you even learn what you've never heard about from your parents when they tell stories,” she said.
“It's pretty much amazing seeing different people, we are having different shows from all over Africa.”
For the first time, the event will be crowning a best-dressed king and queen.
Jabba the Bus will be on site for anyone wanting a COVID-19 vaccine dose.
Various stalls will be set up, including Wise Well Women to spread awareness on health in the multicultural community, particularly women.
