Learning locally is easier than ever.

With the Victorian Government initiative Learn Local, you can access low-cost pre-accredited courses locally, through neighbourhood houses, community centres and more.

These courses can help you continue your studies and find a job, setting you up for the future.

Echuca Neighbourhood House is one of 200 providers across the state and has been offering Learn Local pre-accredited courses since 2003, helping the community gain access to educational services.

ENH admin assistant Alyx Jorgensen said the house offered various courses.

“ENH offers maths and English called First Steps, which is all about basic reading, writing and maths skills, and Let’s Talk About English — Further enhance your maths and English,” she said.

“Both are a perfect option for students who are learning English as a second language.

“We also offer computer/smartphone courses called Digital Essentials 1, a five-week course providing basic smartphone knowledge including SMS, email connecting and working safely, navigating the internet and social media and staying safe online.

“Digital Essentials 2 is a five-week course that follows on from level one to help provide a deeper understanding of digital devices and the ways you can connect with others online. Level two will also introduce you to Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.”

These courses will help you gain important life skills and open new opportunities.

Victorian Skills and TAFE Minister Gayle Tierney said the initiative played a key role in ensuring all Victorians could access education.

“Adult and community education plays a vital role in ensuring all Victorians are supported to gain the skills they need to pursue further study and rewarding careers,” she said.

“Learn Local courses are helping people to transform their lives through community-based education that is focused on the needs of learners and their communities.”
