A new group of locals is now better equipped to research their Scottish and Irish roots, thanks to the Deniliquin Genealogy Society.
The group hosted guest speaker Joy Roy last week at the Edward River Library Deniliquin.
Genealogy Society member Pam Jones said Ms Roy is a well regarded genealogist from Bendigo, and imparted some great knowledge to the 22 people in attendance.
“Joy spoke about connecting with your Irish and Scottish ancestors.
“She also demonstrated Family Search and Trove search - two online sites that are free to use.
“The attendees were busy taking notes as they listened to Joy’s hints.
“The Deniliquin Genealogy Society would like to thank Joy for coming to visit, and thank the Edward River Library for allowing us to host this event there.”
Following the presentation, the Deniliquin Genealogy Society members provided lunch for all participants.
The genealogy ladies provided a wonderful lunch that was enjoyed by all.
Mrs Jones said anyone interested in joining or learning more about the Genealogy Society is encouraged to speak to a member.
“Anyone wishing to learn more about genealogy can usually find us in the library on Fridays,” she said.
“We also have a Facebook page where messages can be sent.”
