Lions Australia celebrates 75 years

Celebrating 75 years: September 2022 marks 75 years of service to the community for Lions Australia.

September 2022 marks 75 years of service to the community for Lions Australia and to mark the occasion, the Cobram Lions will be having a celebration at the club’s market on September 24 at midday.

Since the first club was formed in Lismore, New South Wales in 1947, the group has grown to be one of the largest service organisations in Australia.

The Cobram Lions group has a proud history of nearly 58 years service to the community.

According to Cobram Lions secretary Janet Austin it is a fantastic achievement to see the Lions club all across Australia reach 75 years.

“It is a major achievement for any organisation, and we are quite proud of all Lions themselves,” Ms Austin said.

“I think we feel proud by what we all do for the community as we are an international organisation which has helped people all around the world, not just Australia”.

She said she had been part of the Lions club for more than 30 years, being a member at Yarrawonga and then moving to Cobram, where she has been a member for eight years and has helped with many volunteering programs, barbecues and fundraisers, including the recent program providing showers to those in need.

They will be celebrating this important milestone at the Cobram Lions market on September 24 at Federation Park from midday.

The club will be serving free sausages between 12pm and 12.30pm to give something back to the community and to those who support the market; they are also welcoming any past members to return and join in for the celebration.

The group prides itself on improving the community and nurturing local, national and global environments.

They also promote Australian youth, support medical research and provide aid to people with disabilities, as well as offering community service and disaster relief.

Those interested in the club and what they do are encouraged to attend a meeting on September 27; bookings can be made by phoning 0459 340 109.
