Federal Nationals leader David Littleproud has congratulated new state Member for Shepparton Kim O’Keeffe.

Mr Littleproud said Ms O’Keeffe would make an enormous contribution to Victorian Parliament and the Nationals.

“Kim has lived in Shepparton for most of her life, managed her own business and worked as mayor of Shepparton,” Mr Littleproud said.

“She is a wonderful local advocate for her local community. The great result for the Nationals in Shepparton is largely due to the fact Kim is heavily involved in her community and worked tirelessly throughout the campaign.”

Mr Littleproud also acknowledged the work of former MP Suzanna Sheed, who served for two terms.

“Politics takes an enormous toll on families and requires commitment and dedication,” Mr Littleproud said.

“Suzanna was an independent MP and while we may not always agree on everything, we need more people to stand for service and have the courage to fight for their convictions.

“Suzanna serviced Shepparton since 2014 and the Nationals acknowledge her service and work. It’s important to give credit where credit is due. Almost 10 years of political service is no easy feat and we wish her all the best.”

The Nationals bucked the trend of the Coalition in Victoria and won three seats, including Shepparton, Morwell and Mildura, and retained Euroa following the retirement of Steph Ryan.

Nationals candidate Gaelle Broad was also elected in the upper house alongside Liberal member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell.
