Dr Eliot Jarman of Seymour was recognised with a Length of Service Award for his 35-plus years of dedication to the medical profession at last month’s Rural Health Awards.
Dr Jarman has been an integral part of the Goulburn River Group Practice in both Seymour and Avenel since the mid-1980s, becoming a well-known and beloved member of the local community in that time.
Throughout his career, Dr Jarman has delivered more than 1000 infants, performed minor surgical procedures, and assisted visiting surgeons as needed.
Dr Jarman has been involved with several local organisations, the Victorian Wines Show and enjoys playing pennant lawn bowls. Dr Jarman’s wife, Catriona, has only recently departed from her position as Seymour Rotary Club president.
Dr Jarman is transitioning into retirement but is sure to still be a big feature of the local area through his involvement with the community in both Seymour and Avenel.
State Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland said it was fantastic to see local doctors recognised for their hard work and dedication to their communities.
“Congratulations to Dr Jarman for receiving this prestigious award,” Ms Cleeland said.
“Dr Jarman has been a pillar of the local community. He is involved in local organisations, community groups, and has supported so many individuals and families during moments of ill health.
“GPs in regional areas play such an important role in keeping the local community safe and healthy, and Dr Jarman has been such a shining example of this.”
Dr Suresh Jain of the Kilmore Medical Centre was also recognised at the awards for Outstanding Contribution by a Rural GP or Rural Generalist.
