The chocolate layer cake with dark chocolate ganache coating, topped with raspberries, was a winner in the men’s cooking at both Corowa and Rutherglen Shows over the last two Sundays.
It was made by Corowa resident Christopher Jennings, a senior constable at Corowa Police Station.
Whilst admiring many things at Corowa Show last year, Christopher wanted to get involved somehow in the show and as he has enjoyed cooking at home, decided to enter the men’s cooking event.
“I was inspired by the cake you see in the opening sequence of the great British Bake Off,” he told The Free Press.
At the Corowa Show last Sunday week, Christopher also entered a decorated cake, as a madeira sponge with fondant and piped with leftover ganache from the other cake, shaped to be a treasure chest filled with chocolate coins.
Looks like the senior constable’s cake cooking prowess could come in handy at the Corowa Police Station.
