Looking for a fur-ever friend?

I choose you: More than 40 cats and kittens need a home.

If you’re looking for a furry friend to warm your side this winter, the Greater Shepparton Animal Shelter has the answer.

Greater Shepparton City Council invites community members to Cat Adoption Day to pair some of the shelter’s cats and kittens with their ideal human companion just in time for winter.

This marks the second Cat Adoption Day of the year, with the shelter once again at capacity with over 40 adorable cats and kittens waiting to find a loving home.

Adoption transforms the life of the cat you choose and allows the shelter to take in more animals in need — keeping them safe and off the streets.

Adoption fees for cats over 12 months of age have been reduced to only $30, while the adoption fee for kittens is $100.

No bookings are required; simply arrive at the designated time to meet your new feline friend.

Council manager environment Sharon Terry advised community members to keep their cats home this winter and be mindful of the 24-hour cat curfew.

“Keeping your cat inside will keep them warm and safe, and since most cats love to cuddle up to stay warm, your lap or the couch is the ideal place,” she said.

Shelter staff recommend attendees check out the available cats on council’s website and choose their favourite feline friend.

Once decided, attendees can complete the online pet adoption questionnaire before they get to the shelter to save time on arrival.

All cats have been vet-checked, desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and treated for worms and fleas. They are ready to take home on the day.

Those interested should bring a cat carrier for a smooth journey home, and for first-time owners, carriers can be purchased from the shelter on the day.

The Cat Adoption Day is on Saturday, June 1 from 10am to 2pm at 125 Wanganui Rd, Shepparton.
