Lucky escape after single-vehicle crash near Katamatite

The occupants of a Toyota Camry are lucky to be alive after it lost control on the Benalla-Tocumwal Rd near Katamatite.

Police, SES, CFA and Ambulance Victoria were called to the single-vehicle accident that occurred at 4.15pm on Wednesday, March 6.

Two males in their 30's from Barooga were heading south along the Benalla-Tocumwal Rd when police say the driver lost control of the vehicle just before Fields Rd.

The car left the road and travelled about 40 meters through the roadside, hit a stump and crashed through a fence before knocking over a dead tree, which partially pierced the windscreen.

The driver managed to free himself from the car, and his passenger was assisted by emergency services.

Both were assessed on scene by ambulance crews, transported to Goulburn Valley Health for precautionary observation, and later released.

Traffic on the Benalla -Tocumwal Rd was reduced to one lane for 40 minutes.

Investigation of the cause of the crash is ongoing.
