Overgrown: The entrance to the former McGuire College, which has not been maintained in months.

Contractors will be at the former McGuire College site this week to perform much-needed maintenance following months of neglect.

The front of the school was un-mown and overgrown, according to nearby residents.

The school has been vacant, with shutters drawn, since classes finished at the site at the end of last year.

Students are now at the Greater Shepparton Secondary College campus on Hawdon St, Shepparton.

The primary school next door was still being maintained — both sites are owned by the Victorian Department of Education and Training.

Clean-up coming: A spokesperson for the education department said a clean-up job would begin this week.

A spokesperson said maintenance would begin this week.

“The department will continue to ensure regular maintenance works are undertaken so the site is free from any hazards,” the spokesperson said.

A review of the three empty school sites — McGuire, Wanganui and Mooroopna — has started with key stakeholders to determine the future beyond 2022.
