The transfer station in Yarrawonga will be adjusting its operating hours to 8am to 3pm daily as of Monday, June 5.
The change comes as council pushes for greater efficiency and better waste removal services for residents, as well as aiming to streamline operations and ensure waste materials are handled safely and in line with the latest legislative requirements.
Council will also be cracking down on materials being sent to transfer stations and reminds residents that all building, demolition or commercial and industrial waste loads must be sent to the Cobram landfill for disposal.
Council is also reminding residents that it will not be accepting asbestos, liquid waste, dead animals, industrial food waste, hot ashes, hazardous/toxic substances, night soil or sewage, grease trap waste, medical or clinical waste, or fly ash.
Additionally, drumMUSTER containers and waste oil containers up to 20 litres are only accepted at the following sites: Cobram, Nathalia, Numurkah and Yarrawonga.
Acting chief executive Josh Lewis said the changes were part of council’s desire to ensure safe and environmentally friendly waste management.
“By only allowing domestic household waste to our transfer stations and directing building, demolition, commercial and industrial waste loads to the Cobram landfill, we can also better manage our operations and reduce costs,” Mr Lewis said.
Mr Lewis thanked stakeholders for their co-operation and understanding.
Council is reminding residents that the dumping of illegal rubbish at transfer stations, landfill sites, roadside stops or along roadsides is strictly prohibited, and encourages anyone witnessing someone doing so to report it to council for immediate action.
