A Shepparton man was bashed and left unconscious on a footpath after being attacked on his way home from a night out on the Easter long weekend.

Shepparton Acting Sergeant Kayla Warwick said the man, aged in his 20s, was walking south on Wyndham St when he noticed a group of males following him as he walked home in the early hours of Sunday, March 31.

The group of about five or six people attacked the man after he turned into Balaclava Rd between 2am and 2.30am, Act Sgt Warwick said.

He was knocked unconscious in the attack and woke up later lying on the footpath.

The man’s girlfriend drove him to Goulburn Valley Health for treatment.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the assault or anyone with dashcam footage.

Anyone with CCTV footage of the group or the attack from Wyndham St or Balaclava Rd is also urged to contact First Constable Joel Vallance at Shepparton Police Station on 5820 5777 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestoppersvic.com.au
