A man driving an allegedly stolen car was stopped by police after being spotted allegedly speeding in Tatura on Friday, June 9.

Shepparton Highway Patrol police spotted the car allegedly travelling at 79km/h in a 60km/h speed zone in Ross St.

When police stopped the car, they found it had been reported as stolen and allegedly had false number plates on it, police said.

Police also allege the driver was drug driving and police allegedly found a drug of dependence in the vehicle when they searched it.

The 27-year-old man from the Melbourne suburb Taylors Hill was arrested and charged with theft of a vehicle, handling stolen goods, possessing a drug of dependence and a string of traffic offences.

He was bailed to appear at Shepparton Magistrates’ Court in December.
