Ecstatic with the results of this year’s Mathoura’s Biggest Morning Tea event, organisers have proudly announced that they have achieved their goal of raising more than last year.
Organiser of the event Aleisha Laws said their goal was to raise $5000, this year — up from the $4000 that they raised in 2021.
“We have been blown away by the generosity of our little community and proud to say that we have raised more than $6310 this year,” Ms Laws said.
The 2022 edition of the Biggest Morning Tea event was held on Sunday, May 29.
This is only the second year the Mathoura community has held the event which raises much-needed funds towards the Cancer Council.
Ms Laws said she was incredibly pleased that the event had sold out.
“We were thrilled because we sold more than 100 tickets to the morning tea and the venue was completely jam packed with people from the community who came together for a great cause.”
Plenty of fun was to be had at the fundraiser which saw community members participating in a variety of amusing activities.
Twenty nine items were available for auction on the day, including local hampers, potted plants, accommodation and dining packages.
Games such as high tea bingo and guess the teacup, lucky door prizes and a raffle were also held.
Winner of the first prize in the raffle, Deb Ward, received free accommodation at Maidens Inn Moama, a free paddle steamer cruise, cinema tickets and meal vouchers.
Jan Laws took home second prize which was a free mini photo shoot with photographer Erica Jane. In third place was Peg Starkey who was awarded a CARLA glow fire pit.
Guests were also entertained by singers Morgan Hadjialexiou from Mathoura and Annabelle Lees from Deniliquin.
Ms Laws said she enjoyed looking around the room to see everyone enthusiastically getting involved with each activity.
“It was great to see everyone having a laugh and enjoying themselves,” she said.
