Matilda’s magic gains momentum

The field officers going over information flow techniques.

The Matilda’s magic gained momentum again on Saturday night with a performance that had the world on the edge of their seats.

The game went into a penalty shoot out which was neck-and-neck until Australia finally triumphed.

The Deniliquin District Soccer Club chose to again invite anyone who wanted to attend at the Deni RSL to watch on the big screen.

A video posted to the Pastoral Times Facebook page showed the elation and cheering that the win created in the room, with the atmosphere described as “electric”.

For those watching on TV at home it was a similar feeling, and even the sports stars grabbed a glimpse when they could.

If you were watching AFL on Saturday night they would cast to the players and coaches watching the game when they had a minute to spare.

The Matilda’s will grace the field again on Wednesday night so be prepared, re-load and get ready to cheer ‘Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi’.

Challenge tickets available soon

Save the date, the Edward Kolety Fishing Challenge will be held on February 16,17 and 18 for 2024.

The event will again be capped with last year’s entrants having the first chance at tickets.

After the deadline unsold tickets will be available on a first in, first served basis.

In an update posted over the weekend, last year’s entrants have been asked to keep an eye on their emails in the next couple of weeks.

The website for the challenge will be updated soon.

Updating their skills

Members of the NSW RFS Mid Murray District gathered in Deniliquin for training on Sunday.

They spent the day working through the NSW RFS Area Command South Western fireground leader workshop.

The field officers used this training to improve their pre-existing skills and learn a few new tricks.

They focused on improving information flow in the team and how best to assess emergency situations.

Council meeting

A reminder that Edward River Council will be holding its monthly meeting today.

The meeting is open to anyone wishing to attend, and can be view both in person or via livestream.

Members of the community are welcome to attend council meetings as observers.

They can also pre-register to speak to an item, but the opportunity to do so for today’s meeting has already closed.

The meetings are attended by the mayor, elected councillors, the general manager, and council's executive staff.

The meeting will be held in the council chambers, estates building in Cressy Street, and is expected to begin at 10am.

If you wish to view the meeting by livestream you can visit the ‘Edward River Council Livestream’ YouTube channel.

Drizzle does not discourage Deni

Despite the less than ideal weather that loomed over Deniliquin on Saturday, bargain hunters still flocked to the Deni CBD in number.

The Naponda Farmers’ Market was well attended, and there was plenty of activity at local businesses too.

Many Deniliquin locals braved the dreary weather for a quick walk in the gardens with their pampered pups, too.
