In November 2022 the family of the late Max Robertson were joined by Rotarians and local councillors in Bridge St to celebrate the installation of a new drinking fountain near the Benalla Newsagency.

Benalla Rotary president Ann Kimberley said the fountain was sponsored by Rotary in honour of valued member Mr Robertson, who passed away in 2019.

“Max’s family, including his wife Shirley, daughter Kim and son Leigh, wanted the donations collected in Max’s memory to be used to install a water fountain, which would provide fresh drinking water for the community in the main street,” Ms Kimberley said.

“Present at the celebration was Max’s family, many Rotarians and several (Benalla Rural City) councillors.

“Max had been a Rotarian since September 1993.

“Over the years he held board positions including treasurer, director of community service, international service, bulletin, fundraising and vocational service.

“For his service to Rotary and the wider community Max was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow, indicative of the respect in which he was held.

“The Rotary club and Max’s family thank Benalla Rural City Council, particularly Dean Steegstra, for their assistance with siting and installing the drinking fountain.”
