Yorta Yorta symbols and artworks line the walls of Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre, brought together by local artists as part of the centre’s Reconciliation Exhibition.
Inviting everyone to immerse themselves in the artistry on our doorstep, the centre is hosting a Meet the Artists event as part of NAIDOC Week celebrations.
Highlighting the nuances to Indigenous art, the exhibition showed contemporary styles backed by vibrant hues of Tahnee Day, all the way through to more traditional scopes by Greater Shepparton City Councillor and Yorta Yorta Elder Greg James.
MEAC manager Jan Phillips said NAIDOC and reconciliation was about promoting an “extraordinary” culture.
“We’re really proud to be able to exhibit local Indigenous art and we’re proud to have that relationship,” she said.
“I just think it's really important that we all get on board and start appreciating how lucky we are to be around this gorgeous culture, even if it's not ours.“
Kicking off on Tuesday, July 5, at 5.30pm, patrons will be able to meet the faces behind the works including Yorta Yorta artists Liss Cowan and Jack Anselmi, along with Shannyn Pengilly.
