Meet your council candidates

Get to know your council candidates before postal voting closes.

As ballot papers begin arriving in mailboxes across Victoria, the local council elections are now in full swing.

It’s important to know who and which ward you’ll be voting in before Friday, October 25 - the day postal votes are due for the Greater Shepparton City Council elections.

To help voters make an informed decision, The Door Bells - Migrant Women's Network is hosting a Meet The Candidates session.

The session will give the community an opportunity to meet 14 (at the time of writing) of the council candidates, and ask them questions about their priorities when it comes to this election.

Partnering with La Trobe University and The University of Melbourne, this event offers an opportunity to gain valuable insights into local council operations and the responsibilities of potential future representatives.

The session is open to all Greater Shepparton residents, giving them an opportunity to raise questions and discuss issues that matter most to them and their communities, helping guide their voting decisions.

Vice President of The Door Bells - Migrant Women's Network Khadija Fatima said the Meet Your Candidates event allowed people to connect over shared values.

“The Door Bells - Migrant Women's Network is committed to empowering migrant women by ensuring they are visible and represented in civic and political spaces in Australia,” she said.

“Additionally, Meet Your Candidates events strengthen community bonds by creating spaces for dialogue and debate.

“This grassroots engagement not only enhances the electoral process but also ensures that all constituents’ voices are heard, paving the way for a more informed electorate in regional Victoria.”

Entry is free, and light refreshments will be served

Bookings are essential and questions can be submitted via the registration form at candidate-forum-shepparton.eventbrite.com.au
