One of Australia’s most well-known trophies is hitting the road, with the famous Melbourne Cup set to visit Echuca-Moama and Stanhope.

As part of the annual Melbourne Cup Tour, the three-handled trophy will swing by Echuca-Moama on September 30 before visiting Stanhope on October 14.

This year is the milestone 20th edition of the tour, with the cup set to visit 33 destinations across Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.

Campaspe Shire Council is planning a range of community events for the visit of the iconic trophy and Mayor Chrissy Weller said the whole shire was looking forward to coming together as a community and welcoming the silverware to town.

“Campaspe Shire and Murray River councils are very excited to be part of this year's Melbourne Cup Tour,” Weller said.

“We look forward to sharing the magic of the cup with the Echuca-Moama community.”

The Stanhope and District Development Committee successfully submitted the application for the town to participate in the tour.

Stanhope organising committee member Des Crichton said they were thrilled to part of this year’s event.

“We are very excited to be part of this year’s Melbourne Cup Tour,” Mr Crichton said.

“We look forward to welcoming the iconic trophy and sharing the magic of the People’s Cup with the Stanhope community.”

While the cup is the main attraction of the tour, there is added excitement for 2022, with Stanhope and Echuca-Moama to be part of the Melbourne Cup Tour National Sweep.

This sweep will see 24 rural and regional cup tour destinations across Australia be allocated a barrier for the 2022 Melbourne Cup, with the town that draws the barrier of the Cup-winning horse to be presented with $50,000 to put towards a nominated charity for a local initiative.

This unique tour event is sure to excite racing and sports fans alike, with more information on the visits available at MelbourneCupTour.com.au
