Get ready to rock the night away at the Meoff music night on Saturday, March 16, with headlining band Mr Anderson.

Meoff founding member Greg Hancock said the Meoff was keen to put on something exciting for Kyabram residents to look forward to.

“We had a bit of a float and wanted to provide something fun and entertaining and get things happening for the town again,” Mr Hancock said.

“We’re not trying to make it too complicated; anyone and everyone is welcome.”

The night will include music from the band Mr Anderson and an auction of two items — a mancave-style sign and a Yeti cooler and Great Northern package donated by Hurley’s Hotel.

Mr Hancock said raising money for different community groups was not the Meoff’s original intention, but they were happy it took off.

“Back in 1995-96, heaps of us used to sit around and go for a (motorbike) ride,’’ he said.

“We started to incorporate a poker night and asked people to come along. It started to get really popular and got big in 2000.

“We were just a bunch of normal blokes, but over 20 years, we’ve raised about $200,000 for local charities.

“We’ve donated money to the Royal Children’s Hospital, Kyabram Fire Brigade, Kyabram Swimming Club, Kyabram hospital and junior sporting clubs.

“We wanted to donate to junior sporting clubs because parents do the hard work, so we wanted to help the kids out and raise money for them.”

However, after a motorbike accident, the group had to stop the ride and poker night but still wanted to raise money for local community groups.

“We still wanted to raise some money, so one of the other guys suggested we have a band night,” Mr Hancock said.

“Over the seven years, we’ve had lots of bands perform, including Captain Spalding, Inxsive, Totally 80’s and Bonsai Buffalo.”

Mr Hancock said they also wanted to help the community further by supporting Hurley’s Hotel.

“Hurleys have been a great help. Brett and Bianca have done a fantastic job at supporting us over the years,” he said.

“So we’re also trying to support the pub as well.”

Head down to the Hurley’s Hotel, 217 Allan St, Kyabram, on Saturday for a night filled with great music and good times.
