A family-friendly motor show is roaring back into Merrigum this October.
The third annual Wheels at the Gum event is set to host a variety of four-wheel drives, classic cars, motorbikes, boats and trucks over one event-filled day.
Nearly 30 trophies are on offer for entrants, including awards for car, four-wheel drive, and motorbike of the show, and regional awards such as best British car or American truck.
“We’ve got prizes more dedicated to four-wheel drives and camping, and then also to car and bike enthusiasts,” Wheels at the Gum committee member Georgia Mundie said.
Spectators can enjoy live music, a raffle and silent auction, a Lions Club barbecue, food and drink stalls, including a bar, alongside the prized range of vehicles.
Children’s entertainment and activities will be free or affordable, including face painting, glitter tattoos, lucky dips, and games run by childcare professionals.
The CFA is also expected to have the ‘jaws of life’ in action, demonstrating how the hydraulic rescue tool works on a car.
Ms Mundie said that the event has continued to grow each year, prompting organisers to expand showcased vehicles to include boats and vintage trucks.
“We’re trying to allow a broader audience to be able to present their vehicles,” she said.
“Even if you don’t have a vehicle yourself, it’s such a cheap event for families to attend.”
Spectators are asked for a gold coin donation at the gates for entry, while vehicle entrants are charged $10.
Merrigum Wheels at the Gum will kick into gear from 8.00am on Sunday, October 20 at the Merrigum Football/Netball grounds.
