If you like vintage cars and yearn for the days of the classic MG, you’re in luck because the MG Car Club of Geelong will be visiting Echuca and surrounding areas.
The trip is part of the club’s annual tour, with this iteration being called the ‘silo art tour’. It will see 50 members travelling to Bendigo, St Arnaud, Sea Lake, Swan Hill, Colbinabbin and Rochester before finishing in Echuca.
The journey began on Monday, November 11, and will conclude on Friday, November 15, and will feature 20 vintage MG cars owned by members.
The club will have its cars parked on Murray Esplanade outside the Port of Echuca Discovery Centre on Thursday, November 14 from 9am until noon where members of the public will be able to come and look at motor vehicles from days gone by.
Tour director and club secretary Roger Phipps said that as much as the tour was a great adventure for members, it also gave a boost to tourism in smaller country towns.
“It’s a great activity for the members, they love it, and it is a community event where we can promote tourism in the state of Victoria,” he said.
“Our members have five nights’ accommodation and all the meals that go with it, it’s great for the tourism of the towns we visit because, say, in Echuca that’s 50 people at the Caledonian Hotel for dinner and 50 people on a river cruise.
“It is fantastic value to local communities as well as being a great experience for us as club members.”
