Mitchell Shire Council wants to hear the voices of young people motivated to make a difference in the community.

Council is looking for community-minded young people to join Mitchell Youth Council.

The youth council is an advisory committee of Mitchell Shire Council that provides an important opportunity for young people to have input into council decisions.

It also provides advice to council about how issues affecting young people can be addressed, and it guides council in developing local initiatives and projects for youth.

Mitchell Shire Mayor Louise Bannister said the youth council provided a powerful platform for young people, and allowed senior councillors to gain a more profound understanding of their needs and concerns.

“This initiative offers an incredible chance for our youth to make their voices heard and champion the causes they care about,” she said.

“I urge young individuals from diverse backgrounds to participate and discover what it means to have a say in shaping their community.”

There are usually nine youth councillors among the shire wards: North, Central and South.

Additional positions may also be created to ensure the youth council represents a diversity of views and experience.

To be eligible for the youth council, applicants must be 12 to 24 years old, and live, work or study in Mitchell Shire.

For more information and to apply, visit the Mitchell Youth Services website.

Applications close on Friday, June 14.
