Set to open its doors in early 2023, Moama McDonald’s is beginning to take shape, with the framework of the building up and visible for all to see.

Currently being fitted out with electrical wiring and air-conditioning, the next stage of the build will involve cladding the exterior surface of the building and installing the roof.

Echuca and Moama McDonald’s licensee Scott Moller said the project remained on track for opening early next year despite the restaurant’s construction coming to a halt when the impending floods threatened to devastate the community.

“Construction did stop for a little while with the rain and the floods,” Mr Moller said.

“But one of the amazing things to see was the construction team coming out to help at the sandbagging line even though they’re from Melbourne.

“They were out there supporting our community, which is something that they didn’t have to do and something that I thought was pretty commendable.”

Although Echuca McDonald’s and Moama McDonald’s are less than 5km apart, Mr Moller said he saw great potential in Moama.

He named population growth and tourism growth as two key reasons for taking on the licence.

“Murray River Council has plans to support the growth of the tourism industry in Moama and our plans are very much in line with each other,” he said.

Staff are currently being hired for the new franchise, with on-the-job training being provided at the Echuca restaurant until the Moama restaurant opens.

Mr Moller said they were looking at candidates of all abilities, expertise and ages for full-time, part-time and casual positions.

“We have employees aged from 15 to 70 at our Echuca restaurant,” he said.

Moama McDonald’s is located on Perricoota Rd, next to the Moama Marketplace.
