The draft budget for 2024/25 shows that Moira Shire residents will face higher rates.
Rates are proposed to go up by 2.71 per cent, which is just under the 2.75 per cent cap set by the Victorian Government.
The cost of the organic kerbside collection service is also proposed to go up by 0.71 cents per week.
The council has not yet decided on increasing the EPA levy, even though the state government raised the municipal and industrial landfill levy by 30 per cent.
The levy aims to encourage recycling by charging for every tonne of waste sent to landfill. This will directly impact the cost of disposing of waste at the council’s landfill facilities.
Revenue from the landfill levy will go directly to the state government, not the council.
Moira Shire Council has stressed it acknowledges the economic pressure facing many members of the community and the 2024/25 budget will emphasise financial constraint and responsible spending, thereby ensuring minimal impact on residents.
